Full Job Description

The Midlevel is to provide professional patient care in the office, surgery center and hospital setting as directed or needed.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician including
    • Patient medical history and physical exam
    • Procedure and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants
    • Patient education and explanations of risk and benefits
    • Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
    • Prepare referral letters as directed by physician
  • Ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results and the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record
  • Ensure that there are no mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information to reduce error
  • Document all actions taken, including verbal, phone and other types of communication in patient medical record
  • Communicate provider referral requests to appropriate team for processing
  • Collect, organize and catalog data for tracking system
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA and other compliance guidelines established by regulation or by the Practice
  • Attend trainings on diverse subjects such as information technology, legal and regulatory compliance, billing and coding

Hospital Responsibilities As Directed (These are very minimal at this time and are not expected to increase in the near- to mid-term.)

  • See consultations as directed by physicians
  • Make rounds on behalf of physicians
  • Adhere to chart documentation requirements as outlined by hospital guidelines

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Tennessee is required
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program required
  • NCCPA Board Certification required
  • Valid licensure in the State of Tennessee as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • Training in orthopedic care is a plus
  • At least two years of experience in a physician office or hospital is preferred
  • Ability to make independent decisions about patient care
  • Experience assisting physicians in surgery
  • Experience diagnosing and treating patients
  • Ability to operate electronic health record, practice management and word processing software efficiently and effectively
  • Ability and willingness to understand compliance and billing matters as necessary to perform the job
  • Ability to understand managed care basics and working with a managed care and Medicare population
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to perform patient education duties
  • Neat, professional appearance
