Full Job Description

Annual adjunct faculty members within the School of Physician Assistant Studies will be actively involved with the common tenets of higher education: teaching and service. Additionally, the principal faculty will serve as a critical team member, collectively and collaboratively supporting the mission of the PA program and Lipscomb University. Together with the program director, medical director, existing faculty, and staff, the annual adjunct faculty will also support both the academic and administrative processes required for the provision of didactic and/or clinical components of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The principal faculty member will actively engage in the following duties and responsibilities to the program and university:

  • Teaching:
    • Teaching: providing student instruction
    • Assessment: evaluating student performance
    • Remediation: assuring the availability of remedial instruction and subsequent reassessment
  • Service:
    • Programmatic Review: Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program
    • Programmatic Evaluation: Evaluating the program and supporting the self-study process
    • Curriculum Development: designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
    • Admissions: Selecting qualified applicants for admission to the PA program
    • Mentoring: Academic counseling of students
    • Accreditation Maintenance: participating in ongoing activities related to accreditation
    • Committee Involvement: serving as chair and/or member-at-large in various programmatic and institution-wide committees
  • Other:
    • Engaging in other activities as assigned by the program director
    • Participating in the recruitment and retention of qualified preceptors and clinical sites when required
    • Support the mission and function of the institution and program
  • Education
    • Required:
      • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies, or
      • Doctor of Medicine/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
    • Preferred:
      • Doctoral degree in a related field
  • Experience
    • Required:
      • Minimum three years of documented clinical experience
      • Current NCCPA certification or current Board Certification from ABMS or AOA-related specialty
      • Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of TN as a PA, MD, or DO
    • Preferred:
      • Previous involvement in higher education (e.g., PA education)
  • Job-Related Knowledge and Skills:
    • Qualified through academic preparation and/or experience to teach assigned subjects
    • Knowledgeable in course content and effective in teaching assigned subjects
    • Organizational skills handling and directing multiple and complex assignments and projects
    • A high degree of initiative and self‐regulation
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    • Passion for student advocacy
    • A solid commitment to the mission of the Physician Assistant program and Lipscomb University

Experience

Required Required: Minimum three years of documented clinical experience Current NCCPA certification or current Board Certification from ABMS or AOA-related specialty Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of TN as a PA, MD, or DO Preferred:

  • Previous involvement in higher education (e.g., PA education)
