Job Description

Altos Federal Group, INC seeks a licensed Physician Assistant (PA) to support a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon at the Memphis VA Medical Center. The PA will provide clinical, surgical, and on-call coverage in collaboration with the surgical team, ensuring high-quality care for veterans.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Surgical Support

  • Assist in pre-operative evaluations, intraoperative procedures, and post-operative follow-up for plastic surgery patients.
  • Perform wound care, suture removal, and minor in-office procedures under surgeon supervision.
  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and surgical outcomes in VA electronic health records (EHR).
  • Communicate test results, discharge instructions, and follow-up care to patients and interdisciplinary teams.

On-Call Coverage (Required)

  • Rotate evening, weekend, and holiday call (Friday 4:30 PM – Monday 8:00 AM).
  • Respond to phone consultations within 15 minutes and be onsite within 60 minutes if urgent care is needed.
  • Collaborate with supervising surgeon for complex cases.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) meetings and complete required documentation.
  • Adhere to VA patient safety protocols and incident reporting procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date credentials (licensure, NCCPA certification, CME hours).

Requirements

Licensure & Certification

  • Tennessee PA license (or eligibility for licensure) – full and unrestricted (no prior disciplinary actions).
  • Graduation from an ARC-PA-accredited program.
  • NCCPA certification (must log 100 CME hours every 2 years and recertify every 6 years).
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification (or equivalent).

Experience & Skills

  • 1+ years of surgical or plastic surgery experience (preferred).
  • Proficiency in wound management, suturing, and post-op care.
  • Ability to work autonomously under surgeon supervision in fast-paced settings.

Work Schedule

  • Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (subject to change per Chief of Surgery).
  • OR Days: As needed (Monday–Friday).
  • On-Call: Evenings, weekends, holidays (shared rotation).
