Physician Assistant – Program Director of Clinical Education Charleston Southern University

Description

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Charleston Southern University is seeking a qualified candidate to oversee all aspects of the program’s clinical phase and to participate in didactic instruction, admissions, advising, and assessment. Ideal candidates would have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a practicing Physician Assistant and expertise in developing and maintaining clinical sites, developing clinical schedules, and overseeing clinical education. This is a 12-month, full-time position with administrative responsibilities, reporting to the Program Director.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Program Director, Associate Director of Clinical Education, and the Clinical Coordinator to design and implement an ongoing clinical site development plan to ensure the program has adequate clinical sites.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of ongoing preceptor development and training strategies.
  • Oversee and maintain the schedule for the clinical year of education, which includes assisting in the coordination of students and instructional faculty during supervised clinical practice experiences and student Call Back Days.
  • Oversee clinical site monitoring and the assessment of the clinical phase of the program to include evaluation of student performance, preceptor performance, and clinical site quality.
  • Oversee the facilitation and instruction of Call Back Days for students in the clinical year.
  • Collaborates with the Program Director to ensure that the program’s clinical phase complies with the Standards of the ARC-PA.
  • Collaborate with PA faculty in:

o Providing student instruction in the didactic and clinical phases of the program. o Reviewing and revising the Program’s mission statement, goals, and competencies for the program as necessary. o Evaluating student performance and ensuring the availability of remedial instruction. o Developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating curriculum. o Participating in recruiting and selecting applicants for admission to the PA program. o Participating in the academic advising of students.

  • Participate on program committees as assigned by the Program Director, such as the Academic and Professionalism Progress Committee, Admissions Committee, Policy Committee, Curriculum Committee, and other ad-hoc committees as necessary.
  • Participate in state and national PA organizations as necessary to promote the program and the profession.
  • Represent the PA program through service on committees at the University level as required.
  • Pursue faculty development in activities outside of the program, such as clinical practice or scholarly activities agreed upon by the Program Director and the individual.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Program Director from time to time.
  • Of note, the Director of Clinical Education must not participate as a health care provider for students in the program, except in an emergency.

Qualifications

  • Physician Assistant with a Master’s degree or higher from an accredited academic institution
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of South Carolina.
