The Principal Faculty role at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Physician Assistant (PA) Program is a full-time position focused on teaching, curriculum development, student mentorship, and scholarly activities. Job Description
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Teach in areas of expertise within the PA program’s didactic and clinical curriculum
-
Develop, deliver, and evaluate course content, ensuring alignment with program objectives and ARC-PA standards
-
Provide academic and professional advising and mentoring to students
-
Participate in the admissions process, including applicant review and interviews
-
Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations
-
Serve on program, college, and university committees as needed
-
Participate in program graduation and white coat ceremonies
-
Contribute to the ongoing self-study and accreditation processes for the PA program
-
Participate in professional development activities to maintain clinical and educational expertise
-
Clinical practice release time, up to 0.2 FTE
Minimum Requirements
-
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field
-
Hold, or be willing to obtain within three to five years, a doctoral degree in a relevant field
-
Current NCCPA certification (if a PA) or appropriate licensure/certification in a relevant healthcare profession
-
Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in South Carolina and healthcare discipline as applicable
-
At least three years of clinical experience in a relevant healthcare field
-
Excellent communication, organizational, self-motivation, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications

Interest or experience teaching clinical skills (e.g., history taking, physical examination,

procedures)

Experience teaching in a PA program or graduate medical education setting

Demonstrated success in curriculum development and educational innovation

Record of scholarly activity, including publications and presentations

Experience with interprofessional education and collaboration

Familiarity with ARC-PA accreditation standards and processes

Familiarity with learning management systems and other educational technology
Work Environment

Primarily on-site at MUSC’s Charleston campus with flexibility for hybrid work as needed

Occasional evenings/weekends for faculty development or program events

Collaborative setting with faculty, students, and healthcare partners across the university
