Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Oncology Physician Assistant is an exempt position that provides medical care to patients under the direct supervision of the attending physician; evaluates and examines new patients and prepares them to meet with the appropriate physician or PA; manages patients who are undergoing treatment and monitors them after the treatment is complete; serves as a liaison for oncology patients and other staff; ensures patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential; complies with practice policies and procedures, HIPAA and OSHA requirements, adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local regulations; performs other essential functions as directed by the attending physician.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluates and examines new patients and presents them to the appropriate physician or PA; manages patient treatments and monitors patients when treatment has been completed and is knowledgeable to enter patient information through the EMR software.
  • Takes medical histories; performs physical examinations; diagnoses conditions and prescribes medications; scheduled for rounds in the hospital and works independently when necessary.
  • Orders and interprets tests; develops and implements treatment plans and provides education and counseling to patients and their caregivers regarding the patient’s illness and treatments.
  • Ensures patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential; complies with HIPAA and OSHA requirements, adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local regulations.
  • Increases job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reads job specific professional publications; participates in professional organizations, personal networks and explores new opportunities that may add value to the Physician Assistant position and practice.
  • Performs other essential functions as directed by the attending physician.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assisting accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant; Bachelor’s degree in Biology or equivalent; maintains license per NCCPA guidelines and SC Board of Medical Examiners.
Preferred Experience:
  • At least 2 years’ experience in practicing Oncology
Skills:
  • Ability to be on time to work every day and to perform the responsibilities of this position; knowledgeable of EMR software; work in a fast pace environment; caring and sensitive attitude toward patients, providers and co-workers; critical thinking ability; good interpersonal, speaking and active listening skills; detail oriented and ability to multitask.
