Job Description Job Title: Physician Assistant- Primary Care Reports to: Medical Director Department: Medical FLSA Status: Exempt Job Grade: P Version Date: May 2024 General Responsibilities: The Physician Assistant is responsible for providing primary medical care, within the limits of the training of a Physician Assistant, to assigned patients. The Physician Assistant is a licensed provider works in collaboration with a Thundermist physician. The Physician Assistant executes professional clinical judgment in the care of Thundermist patients, according to the scope, privileges, guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by Thundermist Health Center, and in accordance with the precepting terms agreed upon by Thundermist. Qualifications:Required Qualifications: Have graduated from a physician assistant training program certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) or its successor Have passed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, or any other national certifying exam approved by the Board of Licensure of Physician Assistants within the Rhode Island Department of Health Be licensed as a physician assistant by Board of Licensure of Physician Assistants within the Rhode Island Department of Health pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws§ 5-54-16. Significant Job Functions:Clinical:
- Patient care – history, physical exam, anticipatory education/guidance in pediatrics, management of acute and chronic illness
- Maintenance of complete/accurate patient records
Physical Effort/ Environment: This position is performed at a Thundermist location.
- Moderate physical activity, walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting.
- Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory disease, infectious diseases, and other bio-hazardous material requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners.
- Manual dexterity for needed for certain medical procedures.
- Organization skills, neatness; knowledge of safety and infection control standards of practice.
- Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, and stooping.
- Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, respiratory disease, and other infectious diseases, and other biohazards material requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners.
- Manual dexterity needed for certain medical procedures.
- Clinical environment in ambulatory-based settings and home-based care.
Work Schedule Demands: Full-time (clinical hours and agreed upon administration hours) Communication Skills: Exceptional oral and written skills needed. Proficient in all applicable medical terminology. Bilingual capacity in Spanish or Laotian is a plus. Good interpersonal skills are needed.
