The Orthopaedics Advanced Practice Provider reports to the Orthopaedic Manager and is under the general supervision of the Orthopaedic surgeons. Duties include: performing all necessary hospital based documentation, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging, formulating a treatment plan for orthopaedic consultations, performing therapeutic and diagnostics procedures, first-assisting in surgery, ordering/prescribing medications and orthotics, and providing on-call coverage. The Orthopaedic APP will be an advocate for patients seeking services at Jefferson Northeast and assist in the overall continuum of care. The Orthopaedic APP will be expected to practice to the fullest extent permitted under the current state and federal laws.
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Under the supervision of an Orthopaedic surgeon, evaluate the orthopaedic patients and develop a treatment plan. Complete all necessary hospital documentation
- Optimize orthopaedic patients for surgery ensuring all necessary consultations, labs and diagnostics studies have been completed in a timely fashion.
- Assist the orthopaedic surgeons in the intraoperative setting. Duties include: first-assisting, skilled would closure, and application of post-operative dressings/splints. Complete all perioperative documentation and orders.
- Perform therapeutic and diagnostics procedures with privilege and competency validation.
- Order and prescribe controlled substance category II-V with an active DEA license.
- Provide on call coverage at a Level II Trauma hospital. Evaluate and manage the emergent orthoapedic patient.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams and maintain ongoing communications with staff, patients and families.

- Maintain professional licenses, certifications and meet all CME requirements.
- Seek opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidence based practice. Identify and participate in performance improvement projects. Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
- Participate in ongoing Advanced Practice Provider meetings and educational events.

- Act as a preceptor to Physician assistant/nurse practioner students. Interact with students and residents in an engaging and respectful manner.
- Basic knowledge of medicine and overall comfort with prescribing medication and narcotics.
- Strong interpersonal skills

- Identifications of common orthopaedic injuries and treatment
- Proficient in splint and cast application
- Expert in wound closure and wound management
- Proficient in joint aspiration and arthrocentesis
- Proficient in bedside procedures, including but not limited to: wound closure, incision and drainage, nerve blocks, injections.
- Competent or willingness to learn reduction of major joints.
- Proficient in sterile technique
- Master’s Degree, Graduate of an accredited physician assistant/nurse practitioner program.
- At least 2 years’ experience in Orthopaedics preferred. Orthopaedic trauma experience desirable.
- If CRNP, must have RNFA
- Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (and RNFA) in Pennsylvania
- BLS
- ACLS
- DEA
