The Pulmonary and Medical Critical Care service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our expanding team of Advanced Practice Providers (APP). Our role as medical critical care Advanced Practice Providers is unique, diverse, challenging, and always evolving. We deliver care to critically ill patients in one of the highest acuity medical ICUs in the nation. Join us in caring for a diverse patient population including Oncology, Hepatology, Pulmonary, transplant, and medicine patients. We were the first MICU in Penn Medicine to use an Advanced Practice Provider model, and plan to implement this same model as our service expands into a new, state of the art, 12 Bed Oncology MICU. In addition to critical care, the MICU Advanced Practice Providers also manage a unique Procedure Consult service that provides bedside procedures to patients in all areas of the hospital. These procedures include: central lines, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and lumbar puncture. On the Procedure Consult Service, you will have the opportunity to lead procedural teaching of Residents, Fellows, and Advanced Practice Providers, in addition to autonomous practice. The APP team also operate a medical floor based Resuscitation and Critical Care Overflow service that provides a consult service to patients outside of the ICU who have evolving critical illness. To be successful, we need uniquely qualified leaders in Advanced Practice with the skill, experience, expertise and passion to fill these new and exciting roles in the expanded Medical Critical Care and Oncology Critical Care Programs. These ACNPs or PAs will be working with board certified intensivist and interdisciplinary ICU teams providing front line management of critically ill patients. The Advanced Practice providers in the Medical Intensive Care Unit will function autonomously in collaboration with intensivists, nurses, Pharm-D’s and other health care professionals to diagnose, treat, and manage complex critical illness.
- Pennsylvania state licensure and certification as an ACNP or PA-C is required.
- BLS, ACLS required
- Critical Care Nursing or Fellowship experience preferred; Advanced Practice Provider experience preferred.
The AP model of care will be 24/7/365. You would work 6-7 shifts over two weeks, 12.5 hour shifts, and every third weekend. This position requires day/night rotation. Any interest in an all-nights or weekends position can be considered.
