Full Job Description

The Physician Assistant duties and responsibilities are centered on the coordination and performance (including interventional radiology) procedures which will include a mix of inpatient and outpatient cases as well dedicated time consulting with patients in the outpatient clinic setting.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides appropriate patient care.
  • Obtains patient’s health history that is pertinent to their presenting complaint.
  • Performs physical examination that is appropriate to the presenting complaint and historical data.
  • Obtains the appropriate diagnostic studies necessary to evaluate differential diagnosis.
  • Prescribes the appropriate medications and other treatment modalities within expertise and scope of practice.
  • Provides the appropriate patient and family education regarding treatment and recommendations for follow-up care.
  • Documents assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care in the patient record.
  • Identifies situations that are beyond their expertise as an IR PA or scope of practice and refers to the appropriate Radiologist.
  • Applies sound judgement and skill in emergent situations.
  • Assist with all interventional radiology procedures as directed.
  • Injection, exchange and removal of drainage catheters to include GU and GI drains.
  • Imaging guided thoracentesis and paracentesis.
  • Perform venography and assist with arteriography.
  • PICC placement and repositioning with ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance.
  • Perform arthrocentesis and joint injections under imaging guidance.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Imaging processes, techniques, methods and equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirement related to the functional area.
  • Ability to provide radiographic services to the developmental ages of patients.
  • Ability to assess and interpret appropriate data relative to age and to provide care as needed.
  • Ability to manage workflow and/or unit productivity.

Education and Experience:

  • Current Oregon License as a Physician Assistant
  • Advanced Certification in the modality of CT (required).
  • CPR/First aid (required).
  • Fluoroscopy license in state of employment (preferred).
  • Venipuncture certification (preferred, within scope of practice in OR).
  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Education: Graduate from a Radiologist Assistant academic program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit, stand, and walk.
  • Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs.
  • See, speak and hear to be able to communicate with patients.
  • Lift 10 – 50 pounds
  • Lift hands and arms above own head and shoulders
  • Stoop, kneel or crawl.
  • Climb and balance.
  • Carry and lift (ability to move non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to exam).
