Full Job Description

Pay Range: $151,691.92 – $205,141.88/yr

Essential Functions:

  • Provides professional medical screening, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of Withdrawal admissions. Assesses physical, psychological, and social needs of patient.
  • Seeks consult and approval from medical director on all admissions to the Withdrawal Management program.
  • Ensures safe medication dispensing, adheres to order sets, and accuracy of patient assessment.
  • Recognizes office medical emergencies and coordinates treatment, including facilitating EMS transfer when necessary.
  • Ensures complete and accurate adherence to all regulatory guidelines.
  • Interprets lab, EKG, oximetry, x-ray, and other studies and provides the patient with timely reports as to the findings, appropriate treatment, and options when available.
  • Promotes counseling services and initiates referrals when appropriate. Maintains dialogue with other health care professionals (dental, mental health, chemical dependency, etc.) to promote and facilitate comprehensive healthcare services.
  • Makes appropriate outside referrals to other health professionals, agencies, and support groups within the financial guidelines of Contract Health Services and contracted insurance companies.
  • Participates in after-hours call system shared by other GCR health care staff.
  • Modifies plan of care with the patient to achieve optimal health in conjunction with established treatment protocols.
  • Meets or exceeds the minimum professional requirements for annual Certified Medical Equivalent (CME).
  • Provides medical guidance and training including preparedness training for office emergencies and disasters.
  • Participates in internal quality assurance/improvement activities.
  • Works shifts as assigned and rounds to ensure coverage for all admissions.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Requires a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies.
  • Requires licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Oregon.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly related work experience.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • Maintains certification in ACLS and PALS.
  • If a recovering chemically dependent person, must be in a program of recovery and able to provide documentation of sobriety for a minimum of two years.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must respect all others regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or income level.
  • Must be committed to providing comprehensive health care to the individual, family, and community.
  • Must have experience providing care to high risk, high needs clients including those diagnosed with co-occurring disorders.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge base of medical conditions and treatments.
  • Must be able to perform office procedures (including both invasive and non-invasive minor surgery).
  • Must be able to complete patient visits and documentation in a reasonable amount of time (as determined by team generated protocols).
  • Must possess a strong knowledge base of medications to aid in the substance use recovery process.
  • When required, will need to obtain appropriate medical consultation.
  • Adherences to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the privacy, access, and patient health information in compliance with Federal and state laws and the healthcare organization’s information privacy practices. Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
