The Opportunity

We are seeking a Per Diem Robotics Surgery Physician Assistant.

Location

Salem Hospital

Schedule

  • Days, Monday through Friday
  • 10-hour shifts: 7:00am to 5:00pm

Our Team

Salem Hospital Robotics Program is one of the leading robotics programs in north of Boston. As the program continues to evolve, we are inviting an experienced and motivated Physician Assistant to join our team. Under the clinical supervision of the Nurse Director for Surgery and the Surgeon Robotic Medical Director along with the Chair of Surgery, the robotic Physician Assistant will primarily focus on providing first-assistance across multiple robotic surgical disciplines including but not limited to Thoracic, Colorectal, Urology, Gynecology, Acute Care Surgery, and General Surgery at Salem Hospital. In addition, the physician assistant will assist in the coordination of the robotics service line within the operating room to include establishing and preparing for the program and the use of robotics as a mechanism to deliver unique service and surgical care. This includes the planning for and oversight of supplies, equipment, instrumentation, and orientation for the delivery of surgical care across the continuum of Robotic surgery. Additionally, the Robotic Physician Assistant will see patients pre and post operatively to support the continuum of care for the patient. This candidate will also be involved in the training of residents, fellows, registered nurses, surgical technicians, and other PAs to perform the role of bedside assistant in robotic cases, contribution to a robotic database including intra-, peri-, and postoperative outcomes, and assistance in clinical safety and quality improvement projects.

Essential Functions

  • Provides bedside surgical first assist support for complex procedures, under the supervision of the Surgeon, maintains intra-operative clinical responsibility for robotic surgery (consistent with PA level of practice) including planning and oversight of supplies, equipment, instrumentation, and orientation for the delivery of surgical care across the continuum of Robotic surgery. (30%)
  • Provides independent bedside procedures in addition to supporting continuity of care and care transitions for patients; patient education, medication, and treatment instructions including admission/discharge treatment planning and prescribing both in and outpatient labs, medications, and testing in accordance with Medical Staff policies. (15%)
  • Provides leadership and participates in improving robotic OR efficiency and optimizing robotic utilization, leads and assists with room set-up, facilitates on time case starts and opotimizes Operating Room turn overs. (20%)
  • In partnership with the Robotic Medical Director and the Perioperative Leadership team, coordinates quality council related to Robotic improvements including data metrics, financial stewardship of the supplies, and integrates best practices from other MGB programs for the Salem Robotic Program. (15%)
  • Orients medical students, physician assistants, nurses, surgical technicians, and surgical residents to the environment, patient care practices and hospital policies and procedures as it relates to both OR practice and robotic surgery. (10%)
  • Collaborates with system wide quality improvement initiatives including the development and implementation of best practices, both at the system and the local level, communicates effectively and establishes a good rapport with all levels of personnel in the OR and the system to improve quality care and support the growth of the robotic program. (10%)
Experience

  • Preferred: 3-5 years of experience as a first assist surgical physician assistant OR a first assist robotic physician assistant
Education

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with a Master’s degree

Licensure

  • Required: Current Massachusetts state license as a registered physician assistant
