Description:
Providence Women’s and Children’s Services is seeking two full-time Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistants who have completed a 12-month Neonatal PA fellowship or residency program to join a well-established team of practitioners in Portland, Oregon.
In this role you will provide clinical management of high-risk neonates and infants, patient education, and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and support services to provide high-value, family centered care. You will also exercise autonomy of practice in ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests to drive the patient treatment plans.
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant coverage provided at both Providence St. Vincent and Providence Portland Medical Centers, both teaching hospitals with Level III NICUs, Maternal Fetal Medicine Consultation, and OB Hospitalist support.
There are 13 NNP’s that work for Providence Medical Group. Neonatal physicians are contracted. NNP has patients on their service but are a lot of unit-based support, attend deliveries and do all procedures. Physicians do the daily check ins with patients.
Details:
- In hospital 12- or 24-hour shifts
- Office available at both sites for use
- Average 10-22 PPD depending on facility
- High delivery room volume, average 3,000-4,500 annually

Skills and Requirements:
- NP or PA board certification
- AHA BLS and NRP certifications
- 1-year Neonatal experience

Job Responsibilities (Generalized):
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
- Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
- Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and NP specialty
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
Skills:
- Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients
- Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
- Time management skills to efficiently manage a patient workload
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team
Education Requirements:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
- Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
Licenses & Certifications:
- National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
- National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Experience:
- While specific requirements may vary, most locum NP and PA positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $150,000.00 – $195,000.00 per year
