The Advance Practice Provider is responsible for providing direct consumer care to assigned consumers within an urgent care setting. This is a professional level position working under limited direction yet in coordination with a Lead APP. Typical work scenario require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, sound judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include consumers, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services.

  • Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness, consumer examinations, making initial assessment, initiating treatment, and referring to appropriate center of care when applicable.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
  • Instructs and counsels consumers by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Develops and implements consumer management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. May be required to supervise ancillary staff.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers consumers to specialist and to relevant consumer care options as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services.
  • Responds to stressful situations in a calm, rational manner and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services.
  • Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with consumers and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with Studer Principles.

    • X-Ray Interpretation
    • Foreign Body Removal
    • Fracture or Dislocation Immobilization
    • History & Physical Examination
    • Incision & Drainage
    • Nail Trephination
    • Nail Removal
    • Nasal Packing
    • Preliminary Interpretation of Plain Films
    • Wound Debridement & Repair
    • Wound Dressing
    • Minor Laceration Suturing

Required Qualifications

  • Education
    • Requires a degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Licensure/Certifications
    • Current Physician Assistant
    • Current licensure and certificate to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the State of Oklahoma
    • Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license
    • Approval for privileges by Medical Staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a PA in a family practice setting, urgent care, or related field Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of national medical best practices within an urgent care setting
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of personal computers and related systems and software
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to willingly accept responsibility
  • Ability to set priorities and use good judgement
