Job Overview
As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improve the health and clinical care of patients. The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is looking for a Physician Assistant to join a growing surgical practice. The Physician Assistant will provide outpatient and/or inpatient services in collaboration with a range of professionals, including cardiologists, critical care physicians, other mid-level providers, and social workers. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
Essential Functions
- Primary responsibilities will be to collaborate with an interdisciplinary health care team and work with a designated supervisor, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in various areas of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- The Physician Assistant will demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, with the ability to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for complex surgical and critically ill patients, as well as assisting with surgery, including endoscopic saphenous vein and radial artery procurement for cardiac surgery.
- The Physician Assistant must demonstrate clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgement, professionalism, and compliant documentation in a timely manner.
- Additionally, the Physician Assistant must be available to work some weekends.
Required Education
Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Required Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year experience is required.
- Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
Additional Qualifications Considered
ATLS ideal or obtained within 6 months of hire.
