Full Job Description

Orthopedic Associates (OA) is recruiting a Physician Assistant to join our comprehensive orthopedic team. The essential duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Examines patients, obtains medical histories, and assesses health status.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribes medications.
  • Rounding, assisting in surgery and assisting in office.
  • Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
  • Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
  • Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
  • Coordinates appropriate specialty referrals.
  • Counsels patient/family on preventive health care.
  • Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports.
  • Documents patient information and care in medical record.
  • Maintains department statistical database for research purposes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Out of state and overnight travel may be required for training and educational purposes.
  • Availability for “on-call” status evenings, nights and weekends may be required.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiar with medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
  • Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems and developing care plans.
  • Knowledge of medical records documentation in confidential manner.

The Physician Assistant would provide patient care primarily in the Centerville, Dayton, and Sidney areas.   • Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program
  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant License
  • Prescriptive authority
