As a primary covering provider, you will care for critically ill pediatric patients with complex congenital heart disease before and after cardiac surgery. You’ll be responsible for managing a wide range of high-acuity conditions while working closely with an experienced multidisciplinary team.

This role is focused on comprehensive critical care management rather than procedural volume, although a strong understanding of ICU procedures is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Arrhythmia management
  • External and internal pacemakers
  • Open chest management
  • VA/VV ECMO
  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Occasionally provide care for adults with congenital heart disease requiring critical care or post-operative management.
  • Assist with the management of PICU overflow patients with a variety of critical care diagnoses.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience
  • Strong knowledge of complex congenital heart disease anatomy and physiology
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current New York State Physician Assistant License in good standing
  • Current NCCPA Certification
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • PALS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pediatric Acute Care Physician Assistant certification

Schedule

  • 39 hours per week
  • Rotating 13-hour shifts
  • Days: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Nights: 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Approximately 50% day shifts and 50% night shifts
  • Day and night shifts are typically scheduled in separate weeks
  • Weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback responsibilities as required by unit needs

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a compassionate, adaptable, and highly collaborative clinician who is confident managing complex pediatric cardiac patients in a demanding critical care environment. If you thrive in a high-acuity setting and enjoy working with an expert multidisciplinary team, we’d love to hear from you.
