The Hofstra Northwell Department of Physician Assistant Studies’ mission is to create an interprofessional environment that fosters PA leaders and scholars who deliver empathetic, patient-centered care, and promote inclusivity to the diverse populations they serve.
The academic faculty’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching Responsibilities
o Provides dual-degree, didactic year, clinical year and/or research semester instruction.
o Instructs and assesses students in courses such as physical examination and diagnostic modalities courses, correlative medicine, structure lab, simulation activities, and summative exams.
o Proctors examinations.
o Is responsible for the coordination of selected courses:
- Monitoring and revision of syllabi
- Coordination of instructional sessions.
- Creates, updates, changes, distributes, monitors, and grades student assignments and assessments.
- Develop instruments to monitor overall efficacy of didactic courses:
- Testing instruments reflecting course objectives
- Validation and standardization of testing instruments
- Curriculum adherence to national and state accreditation requirements
o Identification of students with performance deficiencies and development of strategies to address deficiencies including remediation exercises.
o Act as a liaison to core faculty for college resources, textbooks, and teaching materials.
o Updates instructional materials on learning management systems (i.e. Blackboard). Assures course materials are posted.
o Assists with processing of course related data and analyzes course related data.
o Communicates with all faculty to assure objectives are communicated and consistency is preserved.
o Assures students are registered.
- Faculty Program Responsibilities
o Participate in program committees.
o Participate in School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies governance.
o Develop scholarly projects.
o Participate in faculty development and in PAEA.
o Participate in University-wide and community admissions events and other activities as required.
o Participate in the evaluation and selection of applicants as a member of the program’s Admission Committee.
o Provide academic counseling to students.
o Participate in curriculum development, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the program.
o Assure availability of remediation.
o Actively participate in the development, review, and revision of the program mission.
o Actively participate in the development, review, and revision of program goals and competencies.
o Actively participate in student performance.
o Actively participate in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation.
o Attends, participates in, and prepares for all student orientation sessions.
o Attends, prepares for, and participates in all faculty, end of semester, student-faculty, retreat, and all other departmental meetings.
- Other responsibilities as determined by the program director.
- Must hold a current Physician Assistant license in New York State and be certified.
- Has a minimum of a master’s degree in physician assistant studies, public health, health professions education, or a related field.
- Has knowledge of, and commitment to, the physician assistant profession.
- Must have a willingness to participate in a collective faculty process
- Doctoral degree
- 3-5 years’ experience in PA education
