Job Purpose: With a focus on the geriatric population evaluate, treat, and help support for patients with mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive Psychiatric services for patients, regardless of age or sex, on continuing basis:
- Monitor patients’ medication usage and results.
- Check controlled substances monitoring system as per regulations.
- Document patients’ medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, or outcomes.
- Diagnose psychiatric disorders, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders.
- Assess patients’ mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints.
- Educate patients and family members about mental health and medical conditions, preventive health measures, medications, or treatment plans.
- Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, and medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment utilizing variety of psycho-therapeutic methods and medications.
- Order perform drug abuse testing and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patient’s condition.
- Ensure that a patient assessment, treatment plan, patient education, informed consent, treatment agreement, induction, stabilization, and follow-up.
- Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports and examination results.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
- Work closely with internal Behavior Wellness group for appropriate referrals.
- Responsible for keeping track of the number of patients who are currently being prescribed buprenorphine.
- Plan, implement, or administer health programs or standards (e.g., Quality Improvement) or communities for prevention or treatment of injury or illness.
- Participates in educational programs and trainings to promote professional growth and development.
Qualifications
Experience, Education and Licensure:
- Master of Science in Nursing or equivalent PA program degree
- Current valid state medical license
- Board Certified Mental Health NP or PA
- DEA License
- Suboxone license a plus
- 2 + years’ experience in Psychiatric Mental Health care.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate well in writing and in person. Ability to read and interpret common medical terminology. Ability to use communication to work within teams to build consensus and collaboration.
