The Physician Assistant Fellow is responsible for providing medical care as delegated by OrthoCarolina physician(s) and/or APPs. Responsibilities may include assisting the physician and/or APPs in both the office and hospital setting, independent clinics seeing patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and illnesses, assisting in the operating room as needed, and performing emergency room and floor consultations.

Essential Functions:

Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.

Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, MRI, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons/staff.

Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Assesses, applies and/or removes a variety of orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.

Serves as assist-at-surgery for orthopedic procedures.

Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, applies appropriate codes and charges for service, and assists in provision of continuity of care.

Dictates patient records including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations and office visit notes. Documents patient information and care provided in patient record. Uses computer to access/enter needed data.

Rounds on hospital inpatients as directed by supervising physician(s) to hospitals assigned and performs emergency room and floor consultations as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:

Accurately evaluate patient problems and providing appropriate advice, intervention or referral.

Skill in evaluating and revising care plans based on patient changes.
Qualifications:

Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.
Required Prior to Start Date:
