Position Summary
The Neurosciences Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) in the Department of Neurology, is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to support its clinical research study activities. This position is intended to carry out a limited set of APP-level (and other supporting) activities on neurology clinical research studies with the NCTU. Examples of these activities include (but not limited to):
- Lumbar punctures
- Intrathecal injections
- Post-injection observation (and response, as needed)
- Blood draws and processing
- Physical examinations and other assessments (including cognition and other neurological assessments)
- Documentation
- Data abstraction/entry
- Attending study team meetings
- Skin biopsies
- Injecting contrast or study drug(s) with observation
- Other duties as assigned in support of the NCTU clinical research studies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of North Carolina.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must be able to use considerable judgement and skills in performing work assignments. Highly organized, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally. Ability to plan workloads and work independently as well as function as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
2 years of experience practicing as a Physician Assistant. Prefer candidates with 3 or more years of clinical research experience (including experience with electronic data capture systems, familiarity with the clinical research documents (protocols, IBs, etc.) and life cycle. Extensive experience conducting APP-level activities (e.g., LPs, blood draws, intrathecal injections, post-injection observation, emergency response, specimen processing, documentation, data abstraction/entry). Experience with neurology populations.
