Description:

GAP is the longest established gastroenterology practice in the Piedmont Triad area. This independent, physician-owned GI practice is looking for Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners in our GI Clinics with occasional inpatient hospital coverage. GAP evaluates new patients, performs consultations and conducts follow-up visits for chronic gastrointestinal conditions. Our offices draw and assess labs, administer injections and monitor medication therapies. We offer on-site infusion services and our clinical staff assist with a variety of in-office procedures. When appropriate, GAP schedules appointments for outpatient screening, diagnostic and/or treatment procedures. Our endoscopy centers are physician-owned outpatient ambulatory surgical centers which specialize in colon cancer screening and prevention as well as a number of other procedures including endoscopy, Interstim Bowel Control Therapy and Orbera gastric balloon weight loss therapy.

  • Assesses, interprets, and integrates findings to determine appropriate diagnostic, educational and therapeutic management plans for individuals with acute and chronic GI illnesses.
  • For common acute, chronic, or stable conditions, the advanced practitioner will diagnose, manage, and treat, including prevention and patient education. Examples of these would be diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, abdominal pain, and other disorders involving the gastrointestinal system.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of adult gastrointestinal health and related diagnostic and treatment modalities strongly preferred.
  • Skill in communication with patients and families regarding health issues.
  • Skill in performing a complete history and physical exam and recognition of abnormal findings.
  • Clinic hours 8a-5p, hospital hours are 7a-4p or 9a-6p.
  • Weekend and holiday hospital coverage determined on a rotating basis with other practitioners. Pay differential and compensatory days given. No after hours call coverage.
  • Order and interpret any test necessary to the medical evaluation without approval from a supervising physician.
  • Formulate discharge summaries and follow-up plans.
  • Patient population includes patients age 18 and older.
  • The volume of patients seen may vary, with an average expectancy of 12-18 per day in the outpatient setting and 5-35 in the inpatient setting.

Current NC license to practice medicine as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Current DEA. BLS certification required. Must possess strong communication, organizational, leadership skills; have an ability to analyze, plan, and coordinate medical care while making appropriate medical decisions.
