Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). The PA will provide direct patient care for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, managing medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support recovery and improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations, histories, and physical examinations for patients entering and participating in the OTP program
- Diagnose and manage opioid use disorder and related medical conditions under the supervision of the Medical Director
- Prescribe and monitor medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine and other approved medications, in accordance with federal and state regulations
- Monitor patient progress, withdrawal symptoms, medication adherence, and treatment response
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies
- Collaborate with counselors, nurses, behavioral health providers, and case managers to coordinate patient care
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Participate in quality assurance activities, case reviews, and program development initiatives
- Educate patients and families on treatment options, relapse prevention, harm reduction, and recovery support services
- Ensure compliance with DEA, SAMHSA, state, and organizational policies and regulations
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current Physician Assistant license in the state of practice
- DEA registration with eligibility to prescribe controlled substances
- X-waiver certification preferred (if applicable under current regulations)
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally in addiction medicine, behavioral health, primary care, or psychiatry
- Knowledge of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and opioid use disorder treatment standards preferred
- Strong communication, documentation, and patient engagement skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with underserved or high-risk populations
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles
- Bilingual abilities are a plus
- Experience with electronic health record systems

- Outpatient opioid treatment clinic setting
- Fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on recovery and patient-centered care
- May require early morning or weekend coverage depending on clinic operations
