Job Title

Physician Assistant

Job Summary:

Provide specialized care for patients with vascular diseases by conducting comprehensive assessments, managing chronic conditions like peripheral vascular disease (PVD), venous insufficiency/hypertension, end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and medication management, interpreting diagnostic tests, and educating patients on care plan. Collaborate with a team of vascular surgeon, physician assistants, nurse practicioners, and medical office staff and technicians.

General Accountabilities

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough physical examinations and take health histories to assess vascular health and diagnose conditions such as PVD, venous disease, and maintenance of dialysis access in ESRD patients. Patients will be seen in both private clinic and hospital settings.
  • Treatment Management: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescribing medications, providing therapeutic education, and assisting with office based procedures.
  • Diagnostic Interpretation: Interpret diagnostic tests and imaging results, such as ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs, and angiograms, to guide treatment decisions.
  • Operative Skills: Assist in OR. Will provide assistance in both complex endovascular and open surgical cases. Responsible for being knowledgeable about each procedure and developing required skills.
  • Perioperative Care: Assist with the care of patients before and after vascular surgery, including obtaining clearances, providing preoperative instructions, wound management postoperatively.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on risk factors, disease prevention, lifestyle changes, and post-treatment care.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with vascular surgeons, physician assistants, ultrasound technicians, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Wound Care: Provide specialized wound care for patients with chronic vascular conditions.
  • Phlebotomy: Draw blood for preoperative labs.
  • Be willing to work at multiple clinic locations which may include but not limited to areas in New York such as the Bronx, Yonkers, Manhattan.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: An advanced nursing degree (MSN or DNP) is required.
  • Certification: Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner is necessary. BLS and ACLS highly preferred.
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year practicing as NP in any specialty preferred
  • Minimum Skills: Experience with EMR documenting, interpreting diagnostic imaging, MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook.
  • Prefer applicant to have a car and active driver’s license.

Skills and Competencies

  • Able to speak and write English clearly. Correct grammar, spelling skills, and legible writing.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Listens and gets clarification when necessary. Able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of vascular endovascular and open surgical procedures and associated skills highly preferred.
  • Skills in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette, ability to maintain effective and organized systems.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others. Have the people skills to handle different personalities and situations.

  • Bilingual-English/Spanish preferred

Physical Demands

  • Job may require long periods of standing at times.
  • Must be able to assist patients walking to exam rooms and getting onto exam tables.
  • Occasionally required to lift moderate weights (25-50 pounds).

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional medical office and hospital environments.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work at other clinical offices as needed.
