Job Summary:
Reporting matrix to the identified APP- PA Services Clinical Manager/Clinical Department, operations leadership, and leadership within the Center for Advanced Practice. The Lead PA of Advanced Practice primarily serves as a clinical leader and scholar who functions at the expert level of clinical practice in the areas dedicated and credentialed for clinical practice at WMCHealth. This position leads and coordinates interdisciplinary activities, focusing on clinical practice, consultation, education and research, incorporating evidence into practice. The Lead PA/NP position conducts comprehensive assessments and develops plan of care with physician, advanced practice, and/or the nursing staff, initiates appropriate interventions and evaluates care outcomes on a defined patient population. This position uses expert communication skills to serve as patient and family advocate to educate, mentor and coach advanced practice staff in clinical practice, assuming an advanced leadership role in analyzing systems to anticipate and or reduce risk and improve patient safety and quality. In addition to responsibilities which include contributions at the section, site and health network levels, with expectation to collaborate, manage, and lead system wide and national initiatives, this position primarily functions as a clinical provider while demonstrating care delivery excellenence. Lead PA helps oversee and input the clinical schedules of both PA students and PA staff. The Lead PA supports the transition to clinical practice for new APP hires, new graduate APPs and affiliated students that rotate at WCMHealth. The Lead PA supports all education and training intiatives that are geared to support advanced practice operations at the the section/deparment level, as well as, throughout the hospital/health system as directed/needed by the Center for Advanced Practice leadership team.
Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical overshight and support and support to APPs in regard to practice development and professional development.
- Operationalizes advanced practice care delivery models
- Serves as point of contact and expert in appropriate clinical leadership forums.
- Participates in section, departmental, and organizational committess on APP practice.
- Facilitates and partners in support with center for advanceed practice programs, such as central APP orientation, clinical on-boarding/training intiatives, and professional practice advancement models and forums.
- Lead PA will maintain a clinical practice(minimun 90% of the time)
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
3+ years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant in the speciality of oversight. Preferred to have clinical experience across the clinical programs of oversight within a tertiatary or quterinanry academic medical center. Experience participating and leading training initiatives, preferred. Experience working in mutidiciplinary teams with GME, nursing, and other key clinical and non-clinical services.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, required. Master’s degree preferred. Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
Licenses / Certifications:
Must possess current valid New York State Physician Assistant License and have current NCCPA Board Certification, required. DEA required, as are approprirate speciality specific licensures such as ATLS/ACLS.
Other:
The ability to solve complex problems is typically a valued skill for NPs and PAs, as are critical-thinking and the ability to react quickly when a patient’s condition changes. Considerable independent judgment utilized within scope of practice parameters. Special Requirements: Responsible, in collaboration with the attending physician, for medical management of the patient. NP/PA are licensed health professionals, and accountable for their practice within their scope of licensures, as well as, within scope of the collaborative practice arrangements.
