- Highland Hospital is seeking a Full Time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join its team. Candidates for this role will work a split schedule which will consist of the following: 4 weeknights of Evenings, typically 12p – 10p followed by 4 weekdays of days, typically 7a – 5p.
Some duties include but are not limited to: The Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA) works in a collaborative relationship with the Chief of Orthopedics, Orthopedic Residents and Advanced Practice providers to deliver exceptional care to patients with musculoskeletal complaints evaluated at or admitted to Highland Hospital. The NP/PA is responsible for coordination of direct patient care, documentation of care delivered, adherence to hospital and nursing policies, procedures and practice standards, education of patients and staff, creation of Orthopedic Patient Protocols and pathways, Quality Assurance tracking and monitoring , assurance of service excellence, completion of state and hospital-required reviews of practice, and participation in performance improvement and other activities as required. Works within the scope of NP or PA practices in NY State. Management of post-operative patients and preparation of patients for discharge:
- Facilitates discharge paperwork including dictations and interaction with social work for post discharge care.
- Post-operative management of all orthopedic patients.
- Available at all times to address all medical problems related to Orthopedics and any general medical issues that arise during the post op period.
- Orders all necessary tests to assist orthopedic team with appropriate evaluation of patients.
- Performs PM Sign out of all pertinent findings/consults from the day.
- Signs out any unfinished work/post op checks to residents/ on call staff.

Job Requirements
- Education: Fulfilled the requirements to be a licensed PA or NP in NYS. (NP’s must have 1st Assist Certification to be qualified)
- Experience: No experience required, though preferred.
- License/Certification Required: Current valid license to practice as a PA/NP in NYS. ACLS preferred, BLS required.
- Skills: Clinical Information System. Team will educate and orient provider to be able to perform fracture reductions, hip reductions, application and removal of casts, splinting, wound debridement, and nerve blocks as appropriate.
