Full Job Description

New York Firefighters Heart & Lung Institute is a medical center designed by firefighters for firefighters. Our mission is to provide specialized healthcare services tailored to the unique needs of firefighters, all first responders, and their family members. We offer comprehensive cardiac and pulmonary evaluations, cancer screenings, and wellness programs, all delivered with the understanding and dedication that comes from within the fire service community.

We are currently seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our passionate team of professionals and contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional outpatient cardiovascular care. The PA will work closely with our providers to evaluate and manage patients with conditions such as hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and more.

We especially welcome applicants who are part of or familiar with the first responder community. Experience with the demands and values of this lifestyle is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough cardiac histories and physical exams
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and labs
  • Collaborate with providers on individualized treatment plans
  • Manage follow-up visits and medication adjustments
  • Educate patients on lifestyle changes, risk factor management, and medication adherence
  • Document encounters and treatment plans in the electronic medical record
  • Maintain open communication with referring providers and care team members

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Certification by the NCCPA
  • Active and unrestricted PA license in New York State
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cardiology (8+ years preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfort with EMR systems and collaborative outpatient care
  • Connection to first responders
