Full Job Description

Position Summary

The School of Health Sciences and Human Performance (HSHP) at Ithaca College, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Assistant Professor, Physician Assistant Studies. Ithaca College seeks strong clinicians, collaborators, and interprofessional education advocates committed to advancing PA education to join the faculty team for its Physician Assistant Studies graduate program. This is a full-time, 12-month, multi-year renewable notice (non-tenure) position located in Ithaca, NY.

This position reports to the Program Director and supports the Director of Clinical Education in all aspects of clinical education in the PA program, including:

  • Building relationships to identify, establish, and maintain sufficient clinical rotation sites per ARC-PA standards.
  • Developing, maintaining, and reviewing clinical sites and respective affiliation agreements.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with clinical preceptors.
  • Providing clinical preceptor orientation on instruction and assessment of the physician assistant learner.
  • Conducting clinical site visits to evaluate sites, learners, and preceptors.
  • Developing and implementing the clinical rotation scheduling process and managing learner assignments, assessments, and remediation.
  • Planning and implementing assessment activities during end-of-rotation days.
  • Ensuring that clinical faculty and preceptors are oriented in learner assessment and tracking achievement of clinical competencies.
  • Conducting data collection and analysis for the clinical phase of the program.

The successful candidate will also teach in our didactic curriculum. Expertise in a variety of clinical and scholarship areas, experience with clinical simulation, and/or interprofessional education is encouraged. Clinicians new to academia will receive support through our Center for Faculty Excellence. All Ithaca College faculty advise students and participate in scholarly, clinical, and service activities. Faculty also participate in ongoing evaluation of the program’s mission, goals, competencies, and curriculum design.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current NCCPA certification with licensure in the State of New York within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous clinical precepting or teaching experience for an accredited PA program or medical school.
  • Interest in faculty development and inclusive education.
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds.

Compensation

$116,000 – $123,000

About the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program

The Ithaca College Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program is a 27-month residential program enrolling 50 learners per year. Its mission is to educate, engage, and empower physician assistants to achieve excellence through medical theory, clinical practice, and professional performance in historically marginalized, underserved, and rural communities. The program is provisionally accredited by ARC-PA.
