Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant specializing in Neurosurgery to join our dynamic medical team. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations, vital signs, and medical history documentation using EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks.
- Assist neurosurgeons during operative procedures, including suturing, aseptic technique, and intraoperative support in the OR environment.
- Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care, including discharge planning, pain management, and monitoring for complications.
- Administer injections, perform diagnostic evaluations such as spinal taps or lumbar punctures, and manage airway or ventilator support as needed.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate inpatient and outpatient care across various units such as ICU, PICU, Neonatal ventilator units, and general wards.
- Participate in clinical research trials related to neurosurgery or neurocritical care to advance treatment protocols.
- Conduct triage assessments in emergency or urgent care settings for acute neurological conditions.
- Document all patient interactions accurately following HIPAA guidelines and maintain comprehensive medical records.
- Support data collection efforts for quality improvement initiatives and clinical trials while ensuring compliance with NCQA standards.
Qualifications
- Valid Physician Assistant certification with current licensure to practice in the state of employment.
- Proven experience in hospital medicine, neurocritical care, or emergency medicine environments; Level I or Level II trauma center experience highly preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; telehealth experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of neuroanatomy, physiology, CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding practices, and medication administration protocols.
- Experience managing complex cases involving ventilator support, cardiac catheterization procedures, dialysis management, or infectious disease care is advantageous.
- Skilled in performing physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations (including radiology), and invasive procedures like lumbar punctures or spinal taps.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and infection control standards within hospital settings.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams providing primary care, acute care, post-acute care, hospice & palliative medicine, or geriatrics services.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient assessment and health coaching; knowledge of medical terminology essential.
