POSITION TYPE/PAY:

Per Diem – $815 per weekend day worked. If there is a need and the APP is available to work a weekday, the rate is $459 per weekday worked. PLEASE NOTE SALARY BELOW WAS REQUIRED IN SYSTEM SO PLEASE USE THIS INFORMATION ONLY FOR SALARY.

REQUIREMENTS

Required availability to work at least one weekend per month and a minimum of six (6) hours per shift.

Job Summary:

  • The Advanced Practice Provider Per Diem will work with patients on the Chemical Dependency unit and act as part of the care team to perform physical exams, order tests and diagnose and treat substance use disorders on an as-needed basis on weekends only. Daily assignment is based on the needs and acuity of the unit and based on total daily patient census, discharges, admissions and consults as determined by the Lead APP. Will support the Chief of Service and/or other physicians working on the unit, as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs medical history and physical examination, and interprets results of diagnostic studies of patients who have been assigned to the collaborating physician and/or medical director following their admission to the detox unit or following a request for a consultation from another attending physician.
  • Develops a medical management plan with the collaborating physician and/or attending and/or medical director and orders appropriate therapy and additional diagnostic tests, if indicated.
  • Re-evaluates the patient’s clinical course and interprets any additional diagnostic tests on a daily basis.
  • Evaluates test findings, makes initial medical diagnoses and initiates appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of a therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing health care needs of the patient.
  • Documents the appropriate clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR), including history and physical, discharge summary and/or consultation reports in a timely manner in order to bill for services.
  • Applies knowledge of coding to EMR documentation at the appropriate coding level to ensure adequate billing for services.
  • Coordinates the inpatient medical management and discharge planning of the patient with the psychosocial care rendered by the counselors of the chemical dependency service.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of treatment protocols for the type of patients managed by the collaborating physician and/or attending and/or medical director.
  • Acts within the scope of practice as defined by state law and according to the ECMC by-laws and policies/procedures, as well as OASAS guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the collaborating physician, attending and/or medical director if the scope of practice changes (i.e. new outpatient duties, assisting with clinical grants, etc.).
  • Reviews and addresses daily tasks in EMR and as assigned by Lead APP.
  • Complies with all OSHA regulations.
  • Adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality policies and procedures.

Other Functions:

  • Reviews company email on at least a weekly basis in order to receive and address notifications and/or other pertinent information in a timely manner.
  • Any other duties as requested or assigned by the collaborating physician, attending, Chief of Service, Lead APP and/or other management representative. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • Work hours and assignments may fluctuate depending on service needs.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. Current NYS license as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner certified by the NYS Education Department.

Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in health care delivery, preferably in an inpatient setting. Experience in providing care and services to patients with substance use disorders preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication, flexibility, multi-tasking and organizational skills required. Experience using an EMR system strongly preferred.

Working/Environment Conditions:

  • Position is in a well-lit, fast-paced, clean hospital environment.
  • Office noise level will be moderate most times.
  • Moderate/average indoor temperatures.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds) may be required.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
  • Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with the essential job functions such as stationary, mobility, operating machinery, convey and exchange information.

Equipment:

  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office machines/equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line phone, photocopier, fax system, scanner and/or calculator.
