Full Job Description

Position: Physician Assistant

Specialty: Sports Medicine, Interventional Pain Management and Orthopaedics.

Location: Bronx, NY

Schedule: Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (no weekends)

The Advanced Physician Assistant will provide and coordinate the care of patients, provide patient/family education, promote safe continuity of care, and make appropriate referrals. Perform and document comprehensive history and physical examinations on pre-operative and post-operative patients. Primary responsibilities will be in the outpatient setting. There will be opportunities for clinical research. Manage medical care of established/return/post op patients in collaboration with attending physicians with an independent outpatient clinic. Assure continuity of patient care

Required Qualifications: A current New York State license or valid interim license to practice as a Physician Assistant. Must be ethical, professional and courteous to patients, physicians and co-workers.

Scope: Direct Care

Specialty: Interventional Pain Management, Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery Office Based

Evaluation: Elicit a detailed and accurate history from a patient, perform an appropriate physical examination, and make an assessment and diagnosis from all available information. Initiate, review and revise treatment and therapy plans. Record and present pertinent data in a manner meaningful to the physician or surgeon. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patients served. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Assess and interpret data reflective of the patient’s status requirements and age specific needs, and provide appropriate care based upon the results of the assessment.

Monitoring: Assist the supervising physician or surgeon in conducting rounds, and in routine clinic follow-up of patients. Develop and implement, with the physician’s assistance, patient management plans. Assist the supervising physician with the recording of progress notes in out-patient settings.

Diagnostics: Order or transmit an order for x-ray, other studies, MRI Studies, physical/occupational therapy, and nursing services. Order or transmit an order for, perform or assist in the performance of laboratory procedures, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures. Initiate arrangement for admissions, complete forms and charts pertinent to the patient’s medical record, and provide services to patients requiring continuing care, including patients at home.

Counseling: Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regiments, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.

Referral: Initiate and facilitate the referral of patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies and resources within the facility.

Medication: Administer medication to a patient, or transmit orally or in writing on a patient’s record or in a transmittal order, a prescription from his/her supervising physician or surgeon to a person who may lawfully furnish the medication or medical device. No narcotics.

Documentation: Document services provided and preparation of special reports such as discharge or transfer summaries.

Compensation: $120,000 to $180,000 based on experience.
