JOB DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the operating room as the collaborating surgeon’s first surgical assistant.
- Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, patient education, and follow-up visits.
- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluation including history-taking, physical exams, and diagnostic assessments for urogynecologic/gynecologic conditions under direct supervision of the collaborating physician.
- Assist with in-office procedures such as urodynamics, cystoscopy, pessary management, bladder instillations and catheterizations.
- Perform hospital rounding on post-operative patients as needed.
- Perform inpatient and emergency department consults under supervision of the collaborating physician.
- Perform triage process (in person and on phone) to assist patients in obtaining timely and appropriate care and appointments. Consult with others on the healthcare team as appropriate.
- Develop treatment plans in conjunction with the collaborating physician to provide optimal patient medical management. Orders laboratory tests, imaging studies, diagnostic studies and other diagnostic procedures
- Provide counseling on treatment options, surgical procedures, post operative care and conservative management of pelvic floor disorders and benign gynecologic conditions.
- Prescribe medications under the direction of the collaborating physician.
- Independently provide Physician Assistant services to patient/family etc. including education, counseling, medication management, and general health care instructions. Act as a liaison between patient, family, provider, medical facility or other agencies involved with the patient. Serve as a patient advocate to resolve concerns or complaints.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and pelvic floor physical therapists for comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and non-specialty meetings, conferences. Maintains professional credentials and education necessary for professional licensure.
- Document all aspects of patient care provided in an appropriate and timely manner and within requirements of the department or facility.
- Meet all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital.
- Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient education programs
