We are seeking a skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our surgical team as a First Assistant in the operating room. The PA will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to ensure efficient and safe surgical procedures. Responsibilities include pre-operative and post-operative patient care, assisting the surgeon during surgeries, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes. Intraoperatively, the PA will assist with positioning patients, managing surgical instruments, providing exposure, suturing, and performing wound closure under the surgeon’s supervision. The PA is also responsible for monitoring patient vitals during surgery and coordinating with the team to address any immediate needs. The PA will assist with surgeries in a varieties of specialties including urology, gynecology, general and thoracic surgery, The PA will be involved in robotic and laparoscopic surgeries.
Key duties:
- Assist surgeons in the operating room
- Prepare patients for surgery, including medical histories and physical exams
- Provide post-operative care, including dressing changes, wound care, and patient education
- Maintain sterile field and surgical instruments
- Monitor patient vitals and provide immediate intervention when necessary
- Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize patient safety and outcomes
Qualifications:
- Current PA certification and relevant state licensure
- Prior experience in surgery preferred
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
Job Essentials:
- Must possess skillful hands, be able to concentrate for long periods of time, work well under stress and be able to think and react quickly in emergencies.
- Work requires analytic skills and knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, EKG.
- Passed national certifying exam administered by the National Admission on Certification of PA’s.
- BLS & ACLS
CME 20 category 1 credits/year total of 50 CME’s from all categories.
Education Requirements:
Graduate of an approved PA program with a bachelor’s degree.
License/Certification/Registry:
- Current NJ license as Physician Assistant.
- CDS/DEA Registrations.
