Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Hospitalist team. As a PA in the hospitalist department, you will work collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care to hospitalized patients. This role is ideal for an individual with strong clinical skills, a passion for inpatient care, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments including physical exams, history taking, and diagnostic procedures.
- Order and interpret lab tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Develop and implement patient care plans in collaboration with attending physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Provide care for a broad spectrum of inpatient conditions, including acute illnesses, chronic disease management, and post-operative care.
- Monitor patient progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with attending physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education, support, and updates regarding diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Document all patient encounters, assessments, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Procedural Duties:
- Perform or assist in various medical procedures as required, including but not limited to central line insertions, lumbar punctures, and wound care.
- Provide emergency care and stabilization as needed, including responding to code situations.
- Patient Discharge & Follow-up:
- Coordinate patient discharges, ensuring patients and families are well-informed of post-discharge instructions and follow-up care.
- Ensure that follow-up appointments and necessary resources are arranged as part of the discharge process.
- Quality Improvement & Compliance:
- Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives and patient safety efforts.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant hospital policies, medical guidelines, and legal regulations.
- Continued Learning:
- Stay updated with the latest medical research, guidelines, and best practices in hospitalist care.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) programs and hospital training initiatives to enhance clinical skills.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies preferred.
- Licensure:
- Current, valid state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in inpatient care, ideally within a hospitalist or hospital setting.
- Experience in internal medicine, critical care, or emergency medicine is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical knowledge and ability to independently manage complex medical conditions.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
