Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Hospitalist team. As a PA in the hospitalist department, you will work collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care to hospitalized patients. This role is ideal for an individual with strong clinical skills, a passion for inpatient care, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments including physical exams, history taking, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Order and interpret lab tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans in collaboration with attending physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Provide care for a broad spectrum of inpatient conditions, including acute illnesses, chronic disease management, and post-operative care.
  • Monitor patient progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with attending physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education, support, and updates regarding diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Document all patient encounters, assessments, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Procedural Duties:
  • Perform or assist in various medical procedures as required, including but not limited to central line insertions, lumbar punctures, and wound care.
  • Provide emergency care and stabilization as needed, including responding to code situations.
  • Patient Discharge & Follow-up:
  • Coordinate patient discharges, ensuring patients and families are well-informed of post-discharge instructions and follow-up care.
  • Ensure that follow-up appointments and necessary resources are arranged as part of the discharge process.
  • Quality Improvement & Compliance:
  • Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives and patient safety efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant hospital policies, medical guidelines, and legal regulations.
  • Continued Learning:
  • Stay updated with the latest medical research, guidelines, and best practices in hospitalist care.
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME) programs and hospital training initiatives to enhance clinical skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies preferred.
  • Licensure:
  • Current, valid state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in inpatient care, ideally within a hospitalist or hospital setting.
  • Experience in internal medicine, critical care, or emergency medicine is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong clinical knowledge and ability to independently manage complex medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
