We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthopaedic Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Hand, Trauma and Total Joints Teams!
As a key member of our orthopaedic department, the Physician Assistant will work closely with orthopaedic surgeons to provide high-quality care to patients. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of orthopaedic conditions and treatments, as well as a passion for helping patients recover and lead healthy, active lives.
Key Responsibilities-
Clinical Care:
- Deliver orthopaedic care in office and operating room (OR)
- Call obligation x2 a month
- Acute Injury Clinic- Saturday Coverage x4 a year
- Conduct patient evaluations, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical exams, and ordering diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, MRIs, CT scans).
- Assist in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, including fractures, arthritis, ligament injuries, and spine disorders.
- Provide pre- and post-operative care, including patient education, wound care, and monitoring recovery progress.
- Assist in the development and implementation of treatment plans and rehabilitation protocols.
- Perform minor procedures and assist in surgeries, including suturing, casting, splinting, and joint injections.
- Prescribe medications as needed and provide appropriate follow-up care.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients on their condition, treatment options, and rehabilitation strategies.
- Offer guidance on lifestyle changes to improve health outcomes, such as exercise routines, weight management, and injury prevention.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Assist in scheduling procedures, surgeries, and follow-up appointments.
- Ensure proper documentation for billing and insurance purposes.
Professional Development:
- Stay current on advances in orthopaedic care and treatment modalities through continuing education and professional development.
- Participate in department meetings, training, and research initiatives as required.
Qualifications-
Education & Certifications:
- Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited program.
- Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Active state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- BLS/ACLS certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Experience:
- Previous experience in orthopaedics or a related specialty is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy, common orthopaedic conditions, and treatment options.
- Experience with performing procedures such as joint injections, casting, and suturing is a plus.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize patient care tasks.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and assist patients as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
- Ability to perform procedures, including but not limited to injections and minor surgeries.
