Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Provide comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced environment with physician supervision. Performs physical examinations, generates differential diagnoses, interprets test results, and assists with and performs procedures in the emergency department. Will be adept at providing patient education and coordinating follow-up care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a wide presentation of a variety of acute and chronic health problems & psychiatric disorders.
- Evaluate and manage patients with acute illnesses/injuries in a fast-paced, dynamic emergency department environment.
- Assist with and performance of procedures which may include: cardiopulmonary resuscitation, defibrillation and cardioversion, peripheral and central venous access, intraosseous access, lumbar punctures, arthrocentesis, incision & drainage of abscesses, chest tubes, wound management and laceration repair, airway management, nasogastric tube placement, fracture/ dislocation reduction and splinting, and foreign body removal.
- Develop proficiency in the use of healthcare information technologies including computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and electronic medical record (EMR) review and documentation.
- Obtain accurate medical histories, perform physical examinations, generate differential diagnoses and overall assessments & plans for patient management.
- Interpret lab results, ECGs, and review imaging and radiology reports.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; or 2. Current limited permit issued by New York State to practice as a Physician Assistant.
