Full Job Description

POSITION SCOPE:

A Physician Assistant (Advanced Practice Providers (APP) work under the supervision of a licensed Urologist and/or Urogynecologist (urogyn) to assist in the global management of urology and urogyn patients, including all aspects or pre-, intra-, and post-operative care. APP’s are authorized to perform any duties delegated to them by their supervising physician that they feel comfortable performing within their scope of practice. Often urologic/urogyn APP’s can take care of many routine urologic/urogyn problems, freeing the physician to concentrate on more complex patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Physician Assistant performs complete evaluations on patients of all ages (pediatric through geriatric).

2) Physician Assistant orders and interprets appropriate lab, x-ray, and special studies.

3) Establishes a working diagnosis based upon acquired data.

4) Physician Assistant develops a treatment plan for urologic/urogyn conditions in accordance with current urology/urogyn practice and in conjunction with the urologist/urogyn.

5) Implements therapeutic intervention.

6) Physician Assistant provides appropriate follow-up care.

7) Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising urologist/urogyn or other healthcare professionals.

8) Performs complete pre-operative H & Ps on all surgical patients, identifying and alerting the physician to any disqualifying conditions that present.

9) Conducts daily rounds of all hospital inpatient.

10) Evaluates care and order appropriate labs, special studies, IVs, diet, and therapeutic interventions required.

11) Formulates and implements discharge planning and clinical follow-up in conjunction with physician.

12) Dictates discharge summaries.

13) Evaluates and provides appropriate intervention (in conjunction with supervising physician) for ER and nursing home patients.

14) Identifies need and catheterizes patients with appropriate catheters for their condition.

15) Assist with other areas of practice such as evening and weekend call and rounds coverage.
