Department Details
- Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner candidates
- Schedule is four 10 hour shifts per week, primarily M-F with 1 weekend a month , one holiday a year. Flexibility in scheduling
- Clinic and Hospital
- New Grads will be considered; ICU experience preferred.
- Preferred Adult Gerontology or Acute Care Certified required (willing to complete within 3 years) to be in alignment with the national LACE guidelines.
- Position duties
o Assist in fast-paced daily operations of Trauma Services patients, including consults/admissions and rounding
o Initiate, educate, monitor quality improvement initiatives such as CLABSI, CAUTI, VAP prevention, CDI, and early mobilization
o Liaison between Surgical ICU, consultants, and Acute Care Surgical teams as patients transfer out of Surgical ICU
- Must be adaptable and able to work at a fast pace
- Required FTE-1.0
Job Summary
The Trauma Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to critically injured patients in the emergency, operative, and intensive care settings. The NP works collaboratively with trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, stabilize, and manage acute trauma cases and support recovery. Perform rapid and comprehensive assessments of trauma patients in the emergency department and ICU.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, X-rays, CT scans, and other imaging studies.
Assist in surgical procedures and trauma resuscitations as appropriate.
Manage preoperative and postoperative care, including wound management, pain control, and monitoring for complications.
Coordinate patient care transitions, including transfer to rehabilitation or other care facilities.
Provide patient and family education on injury, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
Participate in trauma rounds, multidisciplinary case conferences, and quality improvement activities.
Document all assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately and promptly.
Adhere to trauma protocols and guidelines to ensure high-quality patient care.
Participate in trauma research and continuing education to maintain clinical competency.
Qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master’s degree in nursing is preferred.
Experience in trauma, critical care, or emergency medicine preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC). Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP)
Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
