DIRECTOR OF NURSING

Reports To: Medical Director and/or Chief Clinical Officer
Works Closely With: OTP Program Director, Clinical Director, Counselors, Pharmacy Staff, Medical Providers, Quality/Compliance Staff
Location: 665 W 4th Street, Winston Salem, NC, 27101

POSITION SUMMARY

The OTP Director of Nursing provides clinical and administrative leadership for nursing services within the Opioid Treatment Program. This position is responsible for overseeing nursing operations, supporting safe medication services, supervising nursing staff, and promoting high-quality, compliant client care. The Director of Nursing works closely with medical, counseling, pharmacy, and administrative teams to maintain efficient clinic operations and ensure services meet agency standards and applicable state and federal requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Nursing Leadership and Supervision

· Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to nursing staff, medication staff, and other assigned personnel.

· Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, orientation, coaching, and performance management of staff.

· Monitor staffing patterns and schedules to ensure adequate coverage for dosing, assessments, admissions, and other nursing functions.

· Promote a professional, respectful, and accountable work environment.

· Support staff development through training, mentoring, and competency review.

Clinical Oversight

· Oversee delivery of nursing services for OTP clients, including assessments, admissions support, medication administration support, and coordination of medical care.

· Ensure completion of nursing duties related to client physical health screening, vital signs, medication observation, documentation, and follow-up.

· Support safe and accurate medication dispensing and dosing processes.

· Monitor the dosing area and nursing workflow to promote client safety, privacy, efficiency, and compliance.

· Respond to clinical concerns, incidents, and urgent client care issues as needed.

Medication and Inventory Management

· Oversee medication inventory control processes and ensure accurate counts, reconciliations, and documentation.

· Monitor medication storage, security, ordering, receiving, disposal, and recordkeeping practices.

· Review inventory binders, medication logs, and related records for completeness and accuracy.

· Ensure required controlled substance documentation is maintained in an organized and compliant manner.

· Coordinate follow-up on discrepancies, medication incidents, and corrective actions.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

· Ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with agency policy, clinical protocols, accreditation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

· Review nursing practices, forms, logs, and documentation for quality, timeliness, and compliance.

· Assist with preparation for audits, inspections, and quality assurance reviews.

· Participate in development, review, and revision of nursing policies, procedures, and workflows.

· Monitor nursing licenses, certifications, training records, and other staff compliance requirements.

Communication and Coordination

· Collaborate with the Medical Director, program leadership, counselors, and administrative staff to support integrated client care.

· Communicate operational, staffing, and client care concerns to leadership in a timely manner.

· Participate in leadership meetings, case coordination, and program improvement activities.

· Help resolve client, staff, and workflow concerns in a professional and timely manner.

· Support a team approach that promotes continuity of care and positive client experience.

Operational Support

· Assist with day-to-day clinic operations related to nursing services and medication support.

· Recommend process improvements to strengthen efficiency, client flow, safety, and service quality.

· Help maintain readiness for routine operations, emergencies, and staffing coverage needs.

· Participate in after-hours consultation or on-call support as assigned.

· Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

Qualifications

· Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.

· Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

· Minimum of three to five years of nursing experience required; experience in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or OTP services strongly preferred.

· Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.

· Knowledge of nursing standards, medication safety practices, and documentation requirements.

· Ability to interpret and apply agency policies, clinical procedures, and regulatory requirements.

· Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

· Ability to work effectively with clients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary staff.

· Proficiency with electronic health records, scheduling systems, and standard office technology.

· If applicable, must meet agency requirements related to recovery status and employment eligibility.

· Ability to remain alert, organized, and accurate in a fast-paced clinical environment.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the clinic as needed.

· Ability to safely perform nursing and medication-related duties consistent with job expectations.

· Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and in writing.

· Ability to respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations.

Supervision And Reporting Structure

· Supervised By: Medical Director and/or Chief Clinical Officer.

· Supervises: Nursing staff, medication staff, pharmacy technicians or support staff as assigned.

SALARY RANGE

Hiring range begins at $75,000
