Working title: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

Classification title: Physician Assistants (29-1071) or Nurse Practitioner (29-1171)

Division: Community Health Center

Program: Main Clinic

Reports to: Lead APP

FLSA status: Exempt; Full-time

Schedule: Monday-Friday; Evening and Saturday clinic coverage

Wage Range: $100,000 to $134,399 annually; depending on number of years of transferrable experience and internal equity

Job Summary:

This position provides general primary and preventive health care counseling and treatment for patients in accordance with licensure and approved privileges. The position works as a team member to support patients to achieve health goals and/or improvement in health outcomes. Provides care to patients at our main campus Family Medicine Clinic and specialty clinics: Hep C, Ryan White, Pediatrics, MSK, etc.

This position is expected to intermittently work with learners including APP students and family medicine resident physicians.

Essential Functions/Major Duties and Responsibilities:

A. General Duties 95%

  • Counsel and educate patients about health issues such as diet, nutrition, emotional and mental health, sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, and contraceptives.

  • Assess patient’s health lifestyle, including taking a complete medical history of the patient.

  • Review medications patients are taking.

  • Perform physical examinations of patients.

  • Collect medical specimens and performs several basic medical tests.

  • Order medical laboratory tests and/or X-rays.

  • Evaluate medical test results and interpret them to patients.

  • Treat patient’s diagnosed conditions.

  • Provide surgical and/or other medical referrals as necessary.

  • Keep immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.

  • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and review publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

  • Responds to patients’ and citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.

  • Communicate and coordinate regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.

  • Provide needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.

  • Provide coverage at off campus clinics: Schools, Bridger, Joliet, etc.

Non-Essential Functions/Other duties as assigned 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of RiverStone’s mission and goals.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the medical or nursing field

  • A Master’s degree in physician assistant studies or Advanced Practice Degree in Nursing

  • Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of clinical practice, primary care and/or pediatric experience

  • Experience working with underserved population.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Licensed in the State of Montana

  • Must be credentialed and privileged in accordance with RiverStone Health Clinic processes.

  • BLS Certificate

Supervision:

  • This position does not have supervision authority over others.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is mainly performed in a clinic setting.

  • The position is regularly exposed to biological pathogens and contagious diseases where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and special precautions must be taken due to reduce exposure and mitigate risk.

  • Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, other vehicles, etc. Travel occurs in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

  • Create and maintain a safe/secure working environment by adhering to safety, security, and health requirements. Integrates injury, illness, and loss prevention into job activities by attending any necessary training and implementing best practices.

Freedom to Act & Decision Making:

  • The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Director, and considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in patient care.

  • Responsible for the treatment of 4-10 patients per session, up to 26 patients per day.

  • Decisions directly affect the quality of services provided to the public.

  • Work is structured by public health regulations and established medical practices.

Communications & Networking:

  • Daily written and verbal communication with patients, patient family members, co-workers, and providers.

  • Work directly with other team members to provide quality customer service for patients and customers.

Budget & Resource Management:

  • This position does not have budget authority
