Full Job Description

Spine – Open to New or Recent Graduates

Seeking a Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for a spine surgeon at a large, private orthopedic practice. Major locations in South County and West County in the Suburbs of St. Louis. This role will be to provide office/clinic diagnosis and management of degenerative spinal conditions involving the cervical and lumbar spine. The applicant will work alongside an experienced Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in the office and OR setting. Applicants will be expected to interpret advanced imaging to help diagnose and manage degenerative spinal pathology. Applicants expected to have attention to detail, superb clinical skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Compensation structure includes base salary with a bonus based on productivity.

Responsibilities:

· Performing comprehensive and problem focused history and physical exams including a complete neurological exam. Interpret and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interpret and correlate subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis. Formulate a treatment plan for spinal pathology within scope of practice. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising surgeon or other health care professionals.

· Order, collect, and perform appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures, and studies. Ordering or performing diagnostic studies such as but not limited to XR, MRI, EMG/NCV, CT etc.

· Enacting conservative treatment for degenerative spinal pathology including but not limited to physical therapy, medication management, referral for interventional pain management injections (ESI’s etc). Formulating a surgical plan for the patient.

· Assist in surgery to include but not limited to first assist, surgical exposure, deep and superficial tissue closures. Assisting in simple and complex spinal surgeries.

· Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and occasionally see consults and write consult notes for the on-call surgeon. Create a treatment plan for hospitalized patients, dictate discharge summaries.

· Conducting post-operative rounds, writing orders, and performing admission and discharge work in the hospital setting

· Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medications, spinal orthoses, and other orthopedic devices as allowed by state legislation.

· Spine/Neurosurgery and/or Orthopedic background a plus

· Ability to build rapport with patients.

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
