University of Missouri School of Medicine Department of Medicine Division of Hematology and Oncology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, within the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine is pleased to announce an opening for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their expanding team.

The Department of Medicine’s mission is to provide the best care to patients; create an excellent educational experience for students, residents, and fellows; and advance the understanding of human illness and disease through creative and collaborative research. Roles and responsibilities:

  • To provide health care to patients through the use of the nursing process by collaborating with other health professionals and performing assigned duties in an acute care setting.
  • Performs patient triage and patient management for acute symptom management related to oncologic treatment.
  • Provides information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.
  • Obtain and document comprehensive patient health history and perform physical examination, to be countersigned by physician.
  • Order and/or perform pertinent diagnostic tests agreed upon by the physician and analyze collected data to determine health status.
  • Monitor patient condition, laboratory values, and results of diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborate with the physician and other health care professionals in the development of treatment goals and care plans and coordinate services and treatments to implement and accomplish these goals and plans.
  • Record all patient data, including history and physical examination, problems identified, intervention provided results of care, and plans for follow-up or referral.
  • Evaluate current research and apply the findings clinically.
  • May complete department-specific duties and expectations as outlined.

Minimum Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner Specialty Care

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • Must be granted a “Document of Recognition” from the Missouri Board of Nursing.

Physician Assistant Specialty Care

  • Physicians Assistant (PA) licensure by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.
