Responsibilities
Radiology NP/PAs will cross cover in the care and management of patients on the Charlton 2 radiology procedural area. NP/PAs will be working collaboratively with Radiologists and interact with referring physicians, nurses, and other allied health staff to provide all aspects of high-quality patient care in a dynamic Radiology procedural practice that includes hospital inpatients, and outpatients. The radiology procedural practice and pre/post care unit is located on Charlton 2. NP/PAs will be mentored closely by multiple Radiology Consultants to include those from GI, GU, MSK and Neurology division. This position has an expectation to cross cover and train for competency in both the fluoroscopy guided procedural area and pre/post care unit.
Primary Responsibilities
Fluoroscopy Procedural APP:
- Coordinate fluoroscopy schedule and patient flow with the nursing team, technologists, radiologists, and ordering services
- Perform GU fluoroscopy exams (including RUG, VCUG, and HSG) with the oversight of a specialist GU radiologist. Some of these may also be done in collaboration with other non-radiology providers (e.g. REI physician)
- Perform GI fluoroscopy exams (including Video Swallow, Esophagram, UGI, SBFT, and Colon) with the oversight of a specialist GI radiologist. Some of these may also be done in collaboration with other non-radiology providers (e.g. Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy)
- Perform MSK fluoroscopy exams (including shoulder and hip aspiration and injections) with the oversight of a specialist MSK radiologist
- Perform Neuroradiology fluoroscopy exams (including diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar puncture) with the oversight of a specialist Neuroradiologist
- Communicate with the radiology residents about the day’s exams, and their possible involvement
- Dictate Draft reports on exams performed, sent to the responsible consultant radiologists
Pre/Post Care unit APP:
- Caring for patients in Pre- and Post-Procedure phase of care
- Help streamline the procedural process
- Updating history and physical exam
- Obtaining consents
- Ordering Pre procedure division orders
- Ordering Post procedural divisional orders, procedures and tests as needed
- Dictating Post procedure Progress notes.
- Prescribing home-going medications, as appropriate
- Coordinating appropriate discharge follow-up, studies and test
- Admitting patients to the appropriate service post procedure as needed
- Discharging outpatients after procedures and ensuring appropriate follow up
Qualifications
Prefer 2 years of Advance Practice Provider experience.
Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current MN RN and APRN license and certification as an FNP, ANP, or ACNP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the MN State Board of Medical Practice.
BLS & ACLS certifications are required. Must be eligible for DEA registration.
Additional Qualifications:
Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.
