Responsibilities

The NP or PA will provide direct inpatient and outpatient care to children and adolescents in the Heart Transplant program as well as see pretransplant heart failure or general pediatric cardiology patients. Care will focus on management of pediatric heart transplant recipients in the inpatient and outpatient settings in the peri and post transplant periods including managing immune suppression and infectious prophylaxis. The role will involve facilitating communication between Mayo providers and referring physicians for these complex patients. The provision of care includes but is not limited to comprehensive assessment and physical examination; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and directly managing acute and chronic disease; promoting wellness; prescription of pharmacologic agents, treatments, and non-pharmacologic therapies; care coordination; and counseling and education for patients and families. The NP or PA is also expected to participate in clinical improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting.

Qualifications

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and nurse practitioner program, qualified to care for children. Current Minnesota RN license and certification or eligible to be certified as a PNP or FNP.

Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (or eligible).

Prefer pediatric cardiology, transplant or heart failure experience, or pediatric critical care experience. Ability to problem-solve, work both independently and collaboratively, and assume responsibility for patient and family interaction. Candidate should possess excellent communication skills for effective work with patients/families and for collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Must be eligible for DEA registration.
