Hennepin Healthcare has an opening for a 1.0 FTE Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with our Neurosurgery team. This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide medical and surgical management of complicated neurosurgery patients in hospital and ambulatory settings. The APP will assist staff surgeons and support resident physicians as well as work independently in providing care to patients with the full spectrum of neurosurgery needs, including trauma. In this role, it is necessary to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
This position will be day/evening (with possible night/weekend rotation) – OR – a possibility to be a nocturnist role (straight nights, weekend rotation). No operating room time and limited procedures in either option. Schedule is released a minimum of 6 weeks in advance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct comprehensive and interval physical assessments of neurosurgery patients
- Help manage medically and surgically complicated Neurosurgery patients in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Team
- Order and interpret appropriate labs, radiological studies, and other tests per established criteria and monitor scheduling of patients for special tests
- Educate and inform patient and family of medical/neurosurgical condition and plan of care
- Work closely with clinic staff to ensure discharged patients are scheduled with the correct clinic provider and have the appropriate follow-up tests ordered
- Function well as a team member with residents, nurses, and APPs to assist with their education and growth
- Help develop standard work in the care of the Neurosurgery patients from leading quality improvement projects
- Actively participate in research in the department
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program
- Current MN license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant in the State of Minnesota (or eligibility)
- Nurse Practitioner candidates must be licensed to treat both adults and pediatrics
- BLS, ACLS certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experienced NP or PA
- Neurosurgery Experience (APP, RN or other)

SALARY Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant pay is based on years since licensure and specialty area. The grid below represents current pay rates for this position:
