Hennepin Healthcare has an opportunity available for a 1.0 FTE Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner in our Emergency Medicine Department – a Level 1 Trauma for Adults and Pediatrics. Clinical coverage will be by rotating shifts spanning 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Shifts are 0700-1600, 0800-1700, 1300-2200, 1500-0000, 1600-0100, 2300-0800 and schedule is released 6 weeks in advance. Ability to pick up extra shifts as department needs. In this role, it is necessary to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Perform physical examination and record history
- Write routine orders for appropriate laboratory and radiological studies
- Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as directed by the physician including but not limited to:
- wound care dressing
- venipuncture
- starting intravenous lines
- bladder catheterization
- suturing lacerations
- pelvic examinations and testing
- incision and drainage of abscesses
- immobilizing fractures and other musculoskeletal problems through the use of splinting and casting
- Masters degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
- Current (or eligibility for) license to practice as a Physician Assistant or an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Minnesota
- FNP certification required for APRN candidates
- Previous experience working in Emergency Medicine
- Knowledge of electronic medical documentation system/software
SALARY Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant pay is based on years since licensure and specialty area. The grid below represents current pay rates (rates adjusted annually in April) for this position:

Standard Hours/FTE Status: FTE = 1.00 (80 hours per pay period)
