Physician Assistant – Trauma

Department: 62835615 Surgery Northeast Shift: Day/Evening/Night (United States of America) Hours: 20 Contract: Non-Union Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd Job Profile Summary: Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a Physician/Physician Assistant team. Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team. Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

• Provides clinical care for patients
  • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
  • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
  • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
  • Refers for specialty care when determined.
  • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.

Job Requirements

• Master’s degree Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program required
• At least one year of experience post Physician Assistant training strongly preferred.
• Licensed Physician Assistant – MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
• ACLS-BLS Tier 2 – Multisource required within 180 Days
• Certification as Physician Assistant – NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants upon hire required
• Drug Enforcement Administration upon hire required

Physical Demands Medium Work*: Lifting weight Up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), Up to 25 lbs. frequently

Additional Job Description:

This is a .5 FTE part time position in the General Surgery and Trauma departments at Mercy Hospital.

10-hour shifts (day/evening/night). Weekend rotation: Every 3rd weekend.
