Responsibilities:
- Responsible for conducting admission history and physical examinations for psychiatrically hospitalized youth and young adults within 24 hours of admission
- Makes appropriate medical referrals outside the organization when indicated
- Collaborates with physicians and RNs to review cases, provide treatment, and offer input regarding capability of providing care to patients with medically complex presentations
- Oriented and educated in gender, cultural differences, and age appropriate care for the assigned population
- Provides education to staff and patients/families
- Work shifts to support inpatient hospital which can occur 7 days a week including holidays. Physical presence in the hospital generally 9:00 am-4:00 pm and ready availability by phone should one need to be off the hospital campus. Availability until 8:00PM to provide consultation by phone to hospital staff when identified as the on-call designee.
Qualifications:
- Position requires medical knowledge possessed by individuals trained as a nurse practitioner or a certified physician assistant.
- Current Minnesota NP licensure and board certification (family medicine) or registration by the MN Board of Medical Practice and PA certification by the NCCPA are required.
- Experience working with both pediatric and adult populations.
- Experience with psychiatric illness in adults and youth preferred.
- Must have ability to work effectively as a part of a treatment team.
- Computer experience using Microsoft Office Products including Outlook and Word required.
- Must have strong skills in clinical case management, time management, and written and verbal communication.
- Ability to treat all age populations consistent with licensure or have the capacity to develop these skills.
- Must have ability to manage a variety of clinical obligations in timely manner.
