Position Summary

Concordia University (CU) is a faith-based university located in Ann Arbor, MI, seeking applicants for a part-time faculty position in the Physician Assistant (PA) Program. The PA program is housed in the School of Health Professions, and has a mission to prepare competent PA’s who are committed to caring for patients in mind, body and spirit with an emphasis on primary care and preventive medicine. The Physician Assistant Program Principal Faculty position (didactic) will involve teaching, evaluation, advisement, and mentoring of physician assistant students in classroom, clinical, and other settings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Program

  • Promote the mission of Concordia University to all faculty, staff, students, and to the community at large
  • Promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students
  • Comply with faculty/staff policies and procedures
  • Work with CUAA faculty and staff on an ongoing basis to maintain program compliance with the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC-NCA) criteria for accreditation and reaccreditation
  • Fulfill the University’s scholarship expectation through research, publication, grant development, creative achievement, and other endeavors consistent with the Faculty Handbook
  • Provide committee service
  • Attend PA program and CUAA faculty meetings

Teaching

  • Participate with other principal faculty in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation/assessment of the PA didactic program curriculum
  • Provide PA student instruction, assessment, remediation, and academic advisement in areas of clinical expertise
  • Assist the DCE in developing curricular content for the EOR

Assessment

  • Share responsibility with other faculty for evaluation of student competency in the didactic year
  • Assist the DCE in evaluation of student competency in assessments during the clinical year
  • Develop, administer, and report mid-term, end-of-course, end of term, end of program and any other assessment tools needed in ongoing evaluation of the didactic curriculum

Program support

  • Participate in PA student selection
  • Assist in the search process for selecting PA program faculty
  • Advise the program director of any problems related to behavior, academics or professionalism
  • Fulfill faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook
  • Complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites

Scholarship

  • Establish a personal program of scholarly activity
  • Participate in clinical practice, as assigned

Service

  • Perform service activities that advance the PA program, and the PA profession, including assistance in the recruitment, orientation, and retention of PA students
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Dedication to the academic priorities of CU and the CU/PA program mission
  • Previous experience with ARC-PA accreditation procedures and articulation processes is preferred
  • Experience in activities that focus on assessment and student learning outcomes is preferred
  • Experience with simulation learning activities beneficial
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Physical Demands/Equipment

Education and Experience

  • Current Michigan licensure or eligible to obtain
  • Graduate of Physician Assistant program with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies; an earned doctorate is preferred
  • NCCPA certification and current registration is required
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience required
  • Experience as a faculty member in a PA program or comparable experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability; curriculum development, teaching, and administration is required

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a part-time faculty position. Starting wage may be determined upon education and/or experience.
