Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Physician Assistant specializing in Oncology to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in oncology patient management, clinical research, and advanced medical procedures. This role offers an opportunity to collaborate with leading healthcare professionals in providing comprehensive cancer care, including diagnosis, treatment, and palliative support. The Physician Assistant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care within a dynamic clinical environment, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.

Duties

• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations, vital signs, and medical history documentation using electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
• Assist in the diagnosis and management of oncology patients by interpreting diagnostic tests, including imaging and laboratory results, and developing appropriate treatment plans.
• Administer injections and medications, including chemotherapy agents, botulinum toxin treatments, and other prescribed therapies following HIPAA regulations and drug enforcement administration (DEA) guidelines.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Perform procedural tasks such as suturing, aseptic technique application, and basic invasive procedures like catheterization or thoracentesis under supervision.
• Participate in clinical research initiatives by collecting data, managing research protocols, and contributing to publications or presentations related to oncology advancements.
• Provide patient education on disease processes, treatment options, pain management strategies—including acute pain management—and post-treatment care plans.
• Support triage efforts in emergency or urgent care settings for oncology-related emergencies such as airway management or ventilator support.

Requirements

• Certification as a Physician Assistant with current licensure to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Demonstrated experience in oncology or related fields such as critical care (ICU), emergency medicine, or hospital medicine is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for documentation and data management.
• Knowledge of medical coding systems including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards for accurate billing and record keeping.
• Experience with advanced procedures such as radiation therapy support, dialysis management, or neonatal ventilator use is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy knowledge, diagnostic evaluation techniques, and client communication skills.
• Ability to perform physical examinations accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
• Familiarity with hospital-based procedures including ventilator management, spinal taps (lumbar punctures), and critical & intensive care procedures.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment; experience in clinical trials or research is a plus.
• Commitment to patient-centered care with an emphasis on compassionate communication and interdisciplinary collaboration across healthcare teams involved in hospice & palliative medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, or occupational health settings.
